Skate Car FAQ's

You betcha! Our beloved Skate Car is actually the sequel! The original rolled into town back in the early 1980s when we were known as Roller King. Check out the nostalgic pic of the OG Skate Car in our gallery above!

Not quite! There were 16 fabulous skate cars crafted in the late '70s by the creative genius Larry Strickland in sunny Florida. Our Skate Car is the very first one, the prototype! It's had a few makeovers along the way—at least two restorations—and it’s still turning heads!

We snagged it from a rink called Jellybeans that closed its doors in North Carolina. The Skate Car rolled into Albuquerque on March 12, 2022, riding high on a trailer. After a multi-month pampering session (a.k.a. restoration), it hit the streets, spreading joy starting in November of that same year!

Oh, bless your heart! While we love the idea of racing, the Skate Car is actually a 1973 VW Bus, equipped with the original VW 1600 cc engine and transmission. Let’s just say we’re more about cruising than speeding. We’re lucky to hit the speed limit, especially if there's a breeze—we practically become a big wind sock!

Easy peasy! There’s a door in the back, just waiting for you to hop in.

Just a cozy duo! The Skate Car is perfect for two—who’s your lucky friend?

Absolutely! We give away one free ride each month to our fabulous members. If you sign up for a membership, you could be the lucky one to score that ride!
